Shortly after the politicians in Washington decided to stick their collective noses where they shouldn't have been-in the inter-family struggle over the life of Terry Schiavo-President George W. Bush made a statement in order to create doubt in the minds of the public about whether Terry Schiavo was really as brain damaged as her husband said.
"Err on the side of life," is what Bush said. When I first heard this statement come from the mouth of the man who refused to err on the side of life when it came to death row prisoners in Texas when he was the governor, I almost fainted!
Like always, he and his kind have a double and sometimes triple standard that they use when it comes to who lives and who dies, and how they live and die in this country, and in some cases in this world!
If we as a society did follow the standard that Bush tried to apply to the Terry Schiavo case-"Err on the side of life"-then there would not be a death penalty in this country. Because study after study and report after report has shown that the death penalty system in this country is broken!
It's so broken that it cannot and will not ever be fixed. So to all of you death penalty supporters, and supporters of President Bush, please listen to him-ERR ON THE SIDE OF LIFE!!
